Music and language learning – primary and secondary students
We will look at the effectiveness and methodologies of using music in language learning. 2 innovative European projects will show how these ideas can be used directly in the classroom as tools of motivation.
PopuLLar -asks secondary students to write their own lyrics to pop songs of their choice. They then translate their songs in to the target language they are learning. The students then record their song (audio or video) and share it with other students all over Europe. The receiving students then have to comprehend the songs and translate into their native language and record their version for sharing.
FolkDC – is for primary learners is designed to motivate them to engage with language learning through Folk songs in 10 European languages. The project has created a set of tasks around music, language and culture utilising the songs. At the end of the project a virtual concert will take place in 5 countries were schools will sing the Folk songs.
