Defrag Language Learning

Standard practices in the Foreign Language classroom is to present language in fragments or smaller chunks which may one day be successfully synthesized to form a coherent whole in the learner’s mind, hopefully resulting in fluent output. Research and experience have proved this inadequate. In this talk, I will be looking at activities involving technology which promote holistic learning and motivate the learners to acquire language through collaborative and meaningful projects using a variety of Web 2.0 tools.

Mentoring
Mentoring is a practice that has long been recognised in the teaching profession as very valuable. With today’s overloaded teaching schedules, fast pace and getting to grips with technology, teachers can quite soon become overwhelmed and frustrated. Mentoring can help to guide teachers through these turbulent times whether a teacher is newly qualified or experienced but facing new challenges. In this short presentation I want to look at the value of mentoring and present a mentoring solution that can fit in with any timetable, time zone or teaching challenge.

If a teacher places an iPad on a student’s desk, does it make him/her smarter? Recently there seems to be a mad race to insert technology in language classrooms at any cost. The common belief is that since our students will depende on technology to have a successful business life, they need to be in contact with technology as much as possible.  (More see comment box below)
