From Practice to Theory: Using YouTube to Generate Speaking Activities
Based on a recent presentation in Algeria, where I looked at a number of activities that we can build around YouTube videos to create speaking activities. This is an ideal presentation for teachers with big classes or teachers limited to having access to only one computer. Russell will highlight 5 of the most popular videos recommended to him from teachers around the world and will talk about the activities that teachers can do with them. The focus is on the activities rather than the technology with a focus on scaffolding the speaking and moving to a language focus at the end of each activity.
Russell Stannard is the founder of www.teachertrainingvideos.com which helps teachers to incorporate technology into their language teaching by providing free step by step help videos. He won the Times Higher ‚Outstanding Initiative in ICT‘ award and the British Council ‚ELTons‘ award for the site. He is a NILE associate trainer where he works on the Master in ELT course. The rest of the time he freelances, giving talks all over the world on the use of technology in education.
