The CEFR Web Conference took place on 27-28 March with a record number of attendance and presenters such as Johanna Panthier and Susanne Slivensky (Council of Europe), Daniel Coste, Brian North, Joe Sheils, Frank Heyworth, Maria Stoicheva, David Little, José Noijons, Neus Figueras Casanovas, Michel Candelier, Dr. Monika Jezak, Angela Hasselgreen and Petra Daryai Hansen.

Geoff and Heike will give an overview of the conference and its outcome.

Geoff Tranter has been working in further, higher and adult education in Britain and in Germany for many years and during this period he has been heavily involved in all aspects of vocational and non-vocational language. In particular he has extensive experience in all aspects of language testing including test materials development and syllabus design with particular reference to the CEFR, examiner training test validation, etc. From 2003 to 2008 he was Team Leader for telc GmbH. He is also the author and co-author of a number of ELT materials for adult learners. In 2001 he developed a series of workshops to introduce both course directors and teachers to the approach and principles of the CEFR. He is now a free-lance consultant working together with various organisations including German Ministries of Education, regional associations of Further and Adult Education Colleges in Germany, and quite recently the German Civil Aviation Authority where he helped to develop a system of language tests for German pilots to meet the international standards set by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization. His latest project is the development of a CEFR-based online test for Technical English.
He regularly attends international conferences with workshops on various aspects of language training and teaching and at the present time is involved in a series of training seminars to implement the principles of the CEFR in the classroom. He has extensive experience in online conferences and offers monthly webinars on teaching Technical English.

Heike Philp is CEO of let’s talk online sprl which provides technology support for language learning and events in real-time via the internet. Philp co-initiated three European funded projects on teaching and learning a language in real-time at a distance: LANCELOT (LANguage learning with CErtified Live Online Teachers) and AVALON (Access to Virtual and Action Learning live ONline). Her latest EU project CAMELOT (CreAting Machinima Empowers Live Online language Teaching and learning). Philp founded and organises several web conferences, Virtual Round Table (language learning technologies) DaFWEBKON (teachers of German), SLanguages Annual Symposium and CEFR Web Conference (CEFR). She co-owns EduNation islands in Second Life.
