Bringing history to life through AI – Magdalena Brzezinska

April 27 @ 11:40 am - 12:00 pm

During her presentation, the speaker will discuss a multilayered task designed to facilitate the use of Artificial Intelligence for text and video generation with non-native English speakers (English Philology students) within a college course in Culture and History of English-speaking Countries. Specifically, the discussion will spotlight three instances of generative AI: ChatGPT, Fliki, and inVideo, and their application with sophomore undergraduates, whose proficiency levels ranged from B2 to C1 (CEFR).

The presentation will center on the use of generative AI in foreign language teaching in higher education; however, the task may be adapted to various age groups, proficiency levels, and subjects within humanities. The assignment to be discussed focused on creating an interview with a historical person, fostering student autonomy, creativity, engagement, and deep thinking. Following the implementation, a comprehensive qualitative and quantitative survey, in which students shared their insights, was conducted to examine the subjective appeal and effectiveness of generative AI in their learning process.
