SUMMARY:MAGNILEARN - Making Language Learning Personalized Better & Fun With AI - Tal Levy
DESCRIPTION:As language instructors\, we continuously seek innovative ways to enhance language acquisition. Recognizing that each student possesses unique needs\, we leverage technological advancements to optimize both learning and teaching experiences. Recently\, I discovered an AI-powered tool designed for learning English as a foreign language. This tool offers a personalized learning journey by adapting its curriculum to match the specific abilities and needs of each student\, ensuring the material remains challenging yet manageable. \nA standout feature of this tool is its nano-learning methodology\, which breaks down the learning process into small\, digestible segments\, allowing students to quickly see the impact of their efforts. This approach is supported by data-driven insights that monitor each student’s progress\, providing tailored feedback and recommendations. This facilitates targeted learning efforts and enhances support for student success. \nIn my presentation\, I will explore how this tool can be integrated with existing course materials to create a dynamic and effective learning environment. I will highlight specific features of the tool\, share insights gained from student feedback\, and discuss best practices gleaned from its application. This demonstration aims to illustrate the substantial benefits of incorporating AI technology in language education\, catering to learners at all proficiency levels. \nAI\, data-driven\, personalized learning. \nedtech tool: Magnilearn \n  \nTal Levy has over 35 years of experience in the field of EFL & EPIC. SUMMARY:Ali Shahsavand: Technology and Fluency
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, 8 May 2016 \n11:30am GMT\, 12:30am UK\, 8:30pm Tokyo\, 5pm New Delhi\, 7:30am New York\, 4:30am Los Angeles \nRoom Arthur \nhttp://lancelot.adobeconnect.com/arthur \nAli Shahsavand \nTechnology and Fluency \nIn each and every single language the most essential and meaningful ability is to master speaking. Adequate pronunciation and a reasonable level of oral fluency and being very close to the original accent is currently the biggest obstacle in order to become more competent in a foreign language. \n I have been advocating the Shadowing technique for the past couple of years and it is the reason I am interested in testing its impact through action research. I have had a firm belief that this is the missing ingredient of a more native-like speech. I have been encouraging all my students\, regardless of their level of English\, to practice Shadowing as much as possible. It wasn’t until I started teaching PTE Academic courses\, that I noticed the BIG difference it made! \n Both Kevin and Mycah’s PTE Academic test results\, not only did they manage to improve their Pronunciation and Oral fluency to a great extent\, they also improved in other areas such as Listening and Grammar. What has made these results very interesting is that they have both managed to do so in a very short time. Kevin and Mycah\, are just two of the many examples. \nI have always enjoyed innovative teaching ideas and practices. I have ran multiple PD sessions and workshops for teachers and academic managers on innovative teaching practices\, during the six years of working as a Head Teacher. During the same time\, I designed my own website (www.EnglishCorner.co)\, I also designed and ran the first ever PTE Academic preparation course in Australia (According to Pearson)\, and presented at English Australia Conference and UECA PD fest 2015\, on innovative ways of preparing PTE Academic candidates for the test\, and also on ways of engaging ESL learners\, both within and outside classroom through the use of mobile phone applications – Whats App in particular.

SUMMARY:Natalya Eydelman: Academic Writing and Study Skills Development with Technology
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, 8 May 2016 \n10:30am GMT\, 11:30am UK\, 7:30pm Tokyo\, 4pm New Delhi\, 6:30am New York\, 3:30am Los Angeles \nRoom Arthur \nhttp://lancelot.adobeconnect.com/arthur \nNatalya Eydelman \nAcademic Writing and Study Skills Development with Technology \nMy workshop will be devoted to the discussion of a number of activities aimed at the development of academic writing and study skills in the courses of Academic Writing. They were designed for the 2nd-year students studying at the Foreign Languages Department or enrolled in an ESP course. The students‘ majors are Education\, Translation and Interpretation or Economics. First\, I’ll describe my teaching context and explain the reasons for choosing PBWorks as the learning environment for the courses I teach. Next\, I will share a selection of activities the students complete throughout the courses to master such skills as paraphrasing and summarizing. Also\, I’ll present activities offered to students to help them learn about a variety of academic writing genres and their features and improve their referencing skills. In addition\, I’ll share several activities to help the students to understand the essence of plagiarism and learn to write without it. The participants will be able to try out some activities to see what they are like. In the end I will share some tips about incorporating the described activities in courses of language learning. \nI am a teacher of English from Russia. Teaching is my profession but also my hobby. I have been teaching a variety of English courses at Novosibirsk State University (Russia)\, including Academic Writing\, ICT Methods\, ICT in Linguistics and General English courses for over 20 years. I am very interested in using the technology in the classroom and helping my students and colleagues to benefit from it. I have participated in a number of F2F and online conferences and teacher development events in Russia and abroad. In 2010 I completed my MA (TESOL & ICT) on a Hornby scholarship from the British Council. My current areas of interest include approaches to teaching writing with technology\, learner autonomy and motivation. I am also interested in teaching contemporary British literature courses to develop my students‘ knowledge and understanding of different aspects of the target language and culture.

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL WORLDS Barbara McQueen: Immersive Education in Virtual Worlds
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 7 May 2016 \n10pm GMT\, 11pm UK\, 7am Tokyo (Sun)\, 3:30am New Delhi (Sun)\, 6pm New York\, 3pm Los Angeles \nRoom Arthur \nhttp://lancelot.adobeconnect.com/arthur \nBarbara McQueen \nImmersive Education in Virtual Worlds \nFrom my first contact with virtual worlds\, I have been enthralled by the opportunities they offer for immersive ESL courses. But I have been concerned that so many of the examples of in-world teaching are just replicas of traditional classroom instruction\, rather than attempts to use all the advantages of virtual mediums. In this interview\, I will answer questions about how and why to more fully use the phenomenal possibilities virtual worlds offer to learners and educators. \nFor three decades I have mentored fellow teachers one-on-one\, through in-services\, as an ESL teacher trainer for Oxford Seminars\, and as a conference presenter for TESOL\, the VWBPE\, SLanguages\, and MachinEVO. Now I am developing my own virtual world\, Edutopia\, for delivering online ESL courses that mirror many of the characteristics that are found in the video games that intrigue our youth. \n
